Forging new paths in virtual production: Training the next generation of tech-forward leaders

Sheridan College, one of the top 10 visual effects schools in the world, partnered with WBD Access Canada and the City of Toronto to create and deliver the first Virtual Production micro-credential with a focus on equity and inclusion. The program provides students with the skills needed to succeed in virtual production in the film, tv, gaming and visual effects industries.

Sheridan College x WBD Access Canada Virtual Production Micro-Credential Program

With the support of WBD Access Canada, Sheridan College has launched a Virtual Production Micro-Credential program. Offered through Continuing and Professional Studies at Sheridan, the Virtual Production micro-credential will leverage the expertise, technology and partnerships of Sheridan’s internationally renowned Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT). Developed in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, the curriculum will include courses such as Introduction to Virtual Production, Personal/Professional Development, Virtual Production Art Direction in Unreal Engine, Motion Capture Technician, and Unreal Engine On-Set Technician. WBD Access Canada being a founding partner of the micro-credential,Sheridan will be delivering its new program with a key focus on providing opportunities for people from underrepresented communities. For the next 3 years, WBD Access Canada will fully sponsor tuition fees for 5 students from historically underrepresented groups, including Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities, as well as people living with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ2+ communities. Thanks to the City of Toronto's xoTO Screen Industry Pathways, Sheridan will be able to boost access to the program for members of underrepresented groups and deliver the training for free to another 15 individuals in 2022.

Sheridan Presents its New Virtual Production Micro-Credential

The new Virtual Production Micro-Credential is a part of Sheridan's Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS). The applied learning portion will be held at Sheridan’s internationally-renowned Screen Industries Research and Training (SIRT) Centre, Stage 10 at Pinewood Toronto Studios.
